our vision

Putting church buildings back in the heart of the local community

Centre St Jax is a shared space for downtown Montreal which offers less than market rate spaces to the charitable sector. The building is originally an anglican church and its congregation, St Jax Church, still meets there on a Sunday, along with a couple of other church groups. During the rest of the week various organisations share the space, including some of our regular partners Action Réfugiés Montréal, Le Monastère and L’Académie du Monastère.

Centre St Jax is part of the Trinity Centres Foundation (TCF), a secular Canadian charity whose aim is to turn 100 churches into community hubs. TCF works with faith groups, local government, private investors and charities in order to help make underused church buildings accessible to the local community at large. Although still in its infancy, TCF is currently working on similar projects all around Canada. Centre St Jax is TCF’s pilot site and serves as a model for what could be done on a larger scale.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are at the heart of what TCF thinks local communities should be working towards. It always aims to prioritize its support to charities working towards these honourable objectives. TCF provides less than market rate spaces to Canada’s charitable sector, through the adaptive re-use of church buildings. The foundation measures the number of individuals helped and multiply that by an impact co-efficient for each of the CRA’s charitable sub-sectors.

In order to keep supporting local charities, TCF and its various sites offer space for hire for conferences, weddings, corporate functions and many other exciting projects. Whether you are partying on a Saturday night with Red Bull, worshiping on Sunday during church gathering or dancing in a mid-week fitness class, Centre St Jax is a place where we hope you will experience the joy of feeling at home in a unique historical venue.
